Hello everyone! It's Montville Mary here with news from Arrival Day for you!
It has been a busy but exciting day here at HVC. We have had campers arrive left, right, and center be it on buses, cars, planes, you name it! Finally we are all here and settling in nicely. We're all so excited to have them here and are ready to have a wonderful session!
We spent the day hanging out in the frontyard waiting for everyone. There was a myriad of cool things to do while we waited: friendship bracelet making, name tag decorating, card games, music, fun circle games, swinging on swings, playing tether ball, and lots more. It was exciting to see all of the cabins get fuller and fuller throughout the day. The last bus got here from New York at 5 o' clock just in time for Evening Meeting.
Every morning and every evening we have a meeting with the whole camp there. It's at these meetings that we go over things we need to know for the day ahead, or the upcoming day. There are also all sorts of fun things that go on at meetings, it's not all logistics. There is Joke of the Day, the Gurus of Useless Information, Sound of the Day, and many more. All of these are told by campers, so it's really fun to see what they come up with! There are some things that the counsellors are in control of, for example, the Birthday Girl! She announces whenever there is a birthday. We sing them Happy Birthday in English, yes, but also in Dutch. Oh, and there's a Birthday Organ too. We also have a Weather Guy, except this session our weather guy is from France and so he was requested to be called 'Ze Weazer Guy.' He lets us know what the weather will be like the night before, which is super helpful when your trying to get ready for the day. Today at Evening Meeting two of the counsellors, Emma and Billy, helped the Program Directors (The PDs) put on a funny skit that introduced everything they did around camp.
After the meeting we headed into the Dinning Hall were we had a lovely dinner of chicken, broccoli, potatoes, and carrot cake. And now we're heading to The Rec Hall. It's here that most of the Evening Programs take place. Every night there is a fun Evening Program planned out, and tonight we will be enjoying a counsellor organized night of skits! We will get to hear about all of the wonderful classes that are being offered. It's nice because then the campers can get an idea of things they would be interested in trying out. We really do offer so many things to do here that it is helpful to have a reminder of what can be tried. Tomorrow is Orientation Day and they will get to pick out all of their classes then, whilst the ideas from tonight are all still fresh in their minds.
I'm going to dash over there, but I will have news and pictures from the skits and from Orientation Day for you all tomorrow. Click here for photographs from today!
Yours truly, Montville Mary
