Hidden Valley Camp's Goals

1. Balance is maintained between a happy, creative summer experience and a safe, healthy environment.

2. All programs and experiences at camp are centered around the interests of individual campers and the overall needs of camp.

3. Camp's activities and atmosphere are balanced in terms of:
... Physical activity—Contemplative activity
... Playful moments—Serious moments
... Individual growth—Group endeavors
... Structure which creates security—Freedom of choice which facilitates decision-making

4. Camp binds individual campers with others in their peer group; supportive staff facilitate this process.

5. Camp confronts the issues of community living in an open, honest way. We are all held responsible for our own actions.

6. Camp values individual development as much as it values the transmission of information or development of skills.

7. Camp's programs give campers a voice in the design of their experience.

8. Community activities are small in number and highly personal in character.

9. Camp encourages personal growth to build self-confidence in a non-threatening environment. Campers are encouraged to try as many new activities and develop as many new skills as they feel comfortable in trying.

10. Camp develops an attitude of tolerance and an appreciation of differences with regard to race, gender, age, religion, nationality, etc.

11. Traditionally competitive activities are enjoyed by campers for their intrinsic value rather than for competition's sake alone. Camp supports campers "doing their best" rather than focusing on "who is the best."

12. A secure understandable environment is created. Boundaries provide security and a sense that someone cares. Remember, Campers are Children. Watch any good parent with a child.
