Atlantis
Built in: 1978
Upgraded in: 2008
Official initials: AT
Named after: The undersea kingdom
Facts: Formerly named Last Resorts I. Atlantis was not named at all until 1983!



Avalon
Built in: 1998
Official initials: AV
Named after: A legendary island from the tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Arthur was taken to Avalon to recover from wounds. It is also the place where King Arthurs sword, Excalibur was forged.
Facts: Avalon is right in the backyard behind the swing set and tetherball.



Blue Moon
Built in: 1996

Official initials: BM
Named after: It's beautiful front porch reminded Peter and Meg of an old country cabin.

Named after: The wild horses of Australia.
Facts: The cabin houses campers who are as wild about horses as the cabin name suggest.




Camelot

Named after: Built during the camp's Utopian phase. Camelot was the castle from the tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Named after: A lovely place is Big Sur where Peter and Meg stayed a long time ago.
Facts: Originallly called Riverside.



Community House

Named after: The HV community service and leadership program which live here.
Facts: President Theadore Roosevelt stayed here during a late 19th Century Maine hunting expedition.





Deer Meadows

Named after: The huge 7 acre front yard, winter home to grazing bambi's.
Facts: Used by HV Alive during the August Session.

Down Under
Built in: 1983-1997

Named after: Inspired by our Aussie and kiwi counselors and the fact it is below our dance studio.
Facts: Right by the stream, perfect for hot afternoon creek walks.



Farmhouse
Built in: 1872
Official initials: FH
Upgraded in: 1995
Named after: The camps central building dating back to HVC's agricultural days.
Facts: The Kassen's home! The farmhouse used to sit atop Tipi Hill and in the early 1900's was rolled down the hill on logs and pulled by Oxen to it's final resting place in the center of camp.

Fiddlers Green

Named after: An old Irish legend of a village of paradise that sailors searched for if their ship sank.

Forbidden Planet

Named after: The Epinonomous film.
Facts: Formerly the old Riding Cabin and called Brumby before that. The cabin used to house our horse women before they moved up the hill to the new Brumby cabin.




French Quarter

Named after: A group of campers from New Orleans.
Facts: French Quarter is the biggest cabin (except for Taj Mahal)

Log Cabin

Official initials: HVA
Named after: Duh, 'cause it's made of bricks!
Facts: Built by campers, including Peter's brother. Now home to HV Adventures.



Lower Carriage House

Official Initials: LCH
Named after: It really is a carriage house from Hidden Valley's days as a farm.
Facts: If you go into the Upper Carriage House you can see the mechanism used to raise and lower carriages from when HVC was a farm.

Loons

Official initials: L
Named after: Officially "The Loons" after the Maine State bird, not the crazy cabin inhabitants!
Facts: Loons is Peter's favorite cabin because it's so roomy.

Official initials: PAQ
Named after: Paquatahnee means "off the beaten path" in local Native American dialect.
Facts: Has a beautiful stained glass window of a waterfall made by Wandrea.

PD Barn

Official initials: PD
Named after: The Program Directors who inhabit the building during the summer.
Facts: The PD barn was a dairy barn until renovated in the 1950's.



Ritz Up
Built in: 1983
Upgraded in: 1997
Official initials: RU
Named after: The famous hotel.
Facts: Can be used as winter dwellings.




Shangri-La
Built in: 1986

Official Initials: SL
Named after: Shangri-La is an imaginary utopia in Far Eastern China, a place of permenant happiness.
Facts: Has a great addition on the side. The home of many an exciting poker game.

Taj Mahal

Named after: As the campers largest cabin, why not a grand namesake?!
Facts: HVC's largest cabin, and the only one who's sign is not on the building.

Tipi Village
Built in: 1977
Official initials: TV
Named after: Tipi Village really is a village of it's own. It consists of 3 Tipi's, a kitchen, compost toilet, water well and lots of trails and nature!
Facts: Campers live in Tipi Village for 2 weeks. 6-10campers live in the tipi's at a time with 2 counselors. While in the village campers learn about native american culture, nature crafts and activities, hiking, swimming, lots of campfires and native american games and lore.



The Burrow... Formally Ritz Down
Built in: 1983

Offical Initials: BUR
Named After: The Burrow came into existance in 2010 when Peter issued a formal permit for a name change to the campers in the cabin formally known as Ritz Down. After signing the documents a new sign was made and the cabin offically became The Burrow.




Treasure Island
Built in: 1978

Official initials: TI
Named after: The Robert Lewis Stevenson classic novel.
Facts: Formerly called Last Resorts II.



Utopia
Built in: 1987

Named after: You decide...

Facts: Named by campers after HVC ran out of other Utopian cabin names!

Valhalla
Built in: 1983
Upgraded in: 2001
Official initials: VA
Named after: A Norweigan Legend where Valhalla is big and majestic hall where soldiers travel to after death to join fellow soldiers and past Kings.
Facts: Valhalla had a huge Oak tree fall on it 2 years ago. It took a whole weekend to cut it down before we could even begin repairs to the roof!

Wabanaki

Official initials: WAB
Named after: Wabanaki means "Children of the Light" in local Native American dialect.

Wombles
Built in:1979
Upgraded in: 2008
Official initials: W
Named after: "Underground, Overground, Wombling free. The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we. Making good use of the things that we find. Things that the everyday folks leave behind." Named after imaginary creatures in British Children's Literature. Wombles live in burrows on Wimbledon Common and rummage in garbage and recycle all that they find into ingenious new inventions.
Facts: Has a beautiful new addition. Built in 2008.
