When the Vet came to Brumby

Tongue Recently, Brumby campers were visited by our local vet who is also a former HV counselor. The girls spent the afternoon making the rounds with our herd of 24 horses and helped with the horses head to hoof. Take a look at these photos and read about the visit!

This past summer I had the chance to once again return to Hidden Valley. I am an equine veterinarian in Maine, as well as an HVC alum. This summer I returned to teach first aid for horses to the girls in Brumby.

Equine first aid is an important part of becoming a good horsewoman. I was thrilled to find that the campers were excited and eager to learn. The enthusiasm of these girls to learn also rekindles in me a passion for my chosen career. I can clearly remember being 10, 11, 12 and knowing then that I wanted to be a vet someday. It's a safe bet there are at least one or two girls in Brumby who have the same dream. I wanted to help foster that dream.

I always said I never had the chance to go to camp as a kid. In 1988 I first came to Hidden Valley as a counselor in Brumby. What I learned that summer is that you are never to old to go to camp as a kid. There are precious few places in this world with the unique ability to help us grow while keeping us ageless. Hidden Valley is one of those places.
