Staff Life

Cabin Steps

Join our coed, international, community for campers ages 8 to 14 and make a positive impact on campers' lives. Our peaceful environment, with 350 acres, a private lake and heated pool is in coastal Maine. We create a non-competitive community environment offering elective schedules in numerous program areas, from performing and visual arts to horse riding, llama and animal care, aquatics, sports and more! We offer additional programs for 14-16 year olds in adventure trips, community service and advanced arts exploration.

All Counselors live in a cabin with 2-3 other counselors and 10-15 campers. Cabin life focuses on creating a community with a diverse group of campers, fostering individual growth, and maintaining a supportive and enlivening cabin "family." Counselors also teach 4 periods each day in a variety of program areas. Details of program areas and responsibilities are available by reviewing all of the specific job opportunities at Hidden Valley.
At Hidden Valley, training and supporting staff are critical elements to our success.

During TWO WEEKS of Pre-Camp STAFF TRAINING you will... Ropes
• Get acclimated to daily life on our 300 lovely acres.
• Discuss child development issues and relationship building.
• Develop lesson plans and participate in "practice classes" with your co-teachers.
• Explore methods of group building and conflict resolution with young people.
• Review a range of safety and first aid topics.
• Prepare for the many ways in which we can support children's emerging sense of independence.
• Commence creation of a family atmosphere in your cabin.
• Have Fun! We create a supportive productive international staff group, enjoy a day on the ropes course, visit the coast, etc.

STAFF TRAINING throughout the Summer Season includes: PokaDots

• Weekly lunch meetings with your cabin counseling team and a Director to discuss camper needs and plan cabin programs

• Chats with Meg & Peter and the camp's five Program Directors whenever needed to address counseling and teaching challenges as they develop.
