Meet the 2008 Staff


Aaron comes to Hidden Valley from Rotorua, New Zealand. He has competed in motocross both in New Zealand and abroad. Aaron went to Rotorua Lakes High and loves outdoor activities, including fishing, mountain biking, and rock climbing.

Abigail D. grew up in China, ME and is majoring in Elementary Education at the University of Maine. She taught horseback riding for four summers and has been an assistant to five professors at her college. Abigail enjoys biking, fishing, and music.

Adriana grew up in Cambridge, MA. She is majoring in Urban Studies and Sociology at Barnard College, where she is an editor of Consilience: The Journal of Sustainable Development. Adriana enjoys traveling, writing, and visual arts. This is her third year as a counselor at Hidden Valley.

Aimee Rose grew up in Fairfield, ME and currently lives in Boston. She graduated from Emerson College in 2007 with a degree in theater. Aimee Rose has worked at many different camps but has enjoyed her time at Hidden Valley the most. Her interests include storytelling, acting, painting, and running.

Allie currently lives in Dublin, OH. She is majoring in sociology and philosophy at Ohio Wesleyan University. Allie enjoys music, reading, writing, and art.

Amelia just finished her freshman year at Gettysburg College. She hails from Yarmouth, ME and enjoys art, languages, reading, and traveling. Amelia previously worked as a babysitter and as a waitress at an assisted living facility.

Amy grew up in Ashby, MA. She is majoring in political science and French at Santa Clara University. Amy works in her college’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions and has worked for Friends of African Village Libraries, a non-profit organization. She enjoys dance, reading, and kayaking. This is her second summer as a counselor at Hidden Valley.

Angie hails from Kokomo, IN. She has worked with children since she was 12 years old and has been a lifeguard since she was 16 years old. Angie is majoring in theater at Indiana State University. She enjoys cooking, stage managing, and lighting.

Becca hails from Newton, MA and is majoring in economics at Ohio Wesleyan University. Before working at Hidden Valley, she was a day camp counselor. Becca is interested in dance.

Benjamin G. grew up in Palo Alto, CA. He finished college with degrees in psychology and Peace and Justice. Ben worked as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant in the psychology department at California State University-East Bay. He enjoys music, hiking, and traveling.

Ben Sa. hails from Kenosha, WI and just graduated from New York University with a degree in Film and Television. He recently worked as a cameraman and editor of an educational documentary for middle school students. Ben has been involved with Boy Scouts for 13 years and is now an Eagle Scout and the Assistant Scoutmaster of his home troop.

Ben Su. grew up in Darwen, England. He majored in Leisure and Recreation, a combination of sport and business studies, in college and is now training to become an electrician. Ben loves soccer, cricket, baseball, and listening to music.

Benjamin D. comes to Hidden Valley from Lille, France and attends EDHEC Business School. He has worked as an administrative employee. Benjamin enjoys music and outdoor activities.

Bethany hails from Rehoboth, MA. She has worked at summer camps in various capacities since she was 17 years old. Bethany just graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Elementary Education. She enjoys aquatics, reading, traveling, and photography.

Brad comes to Hidden Valley from Murphys, CA. He has worked as a designer and builder of homes. Brad teaches woodworking at Hidden Valley and also enjoys metal sculpture.

Bryan grew up in Armonk, NY and Queens, NY. He has worked as a teacher’s assistant for a kindergarten class and as an intern at a bank. Bryan is a history major at SUNY-Purchase. He enjoys baseball, tennis, and drumming and is looking forward to being a Hidden Valley counselor.

Callum hails from North Berwick, Scotland. He is working on a degree in Business and Marketing with Honors at the University of Stirling. Callum has worked as a waiter and rugby coach and enjoys sports.

Calvy hails from Conway, SC. She attends the Maryland Institute College of Art and is a Fibers major with an Art History minor and a concentration in Costume Design. She has worked as a Digital Textile Printer Technician, Office Assistant, and Costume Assistant and Designer. Calvy enjoys kayaking, walking, and rollerblading.

Carly hails from Jefferson, ME. She has worked at basketball camps and in sports retail. Carly is a student at Southern Maine Community College majoring in Physical Education. She enjoys sports and art.

Carmi grew up in Kalamazoo, MI and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Paper and Printing Engineering. He has been a landlord, cereal carton printer, and glass artist. He manages the glass bead program at Hidden Valley.

Carrie grew up in Wyomissing, PA and is entering her final year at New York University, where she is majoring in Music Education, K-12. She is a literacy and math skills tutor at the Institute for Collaborative Education and has worked as a counselor at Hidden Valley for the past two summers. In addition to music, Carrie enjoys reading and yoga.

Chang Jin grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is now majoring in economics at the London School of Economics. He has worked in finances and as a pianist. Chang enjoys tennis, traveling, and soccer.

Christina hails from San Antonio, TX. She holds a degree in Performance from Baylor University and now attends the Actor’s Studio Drama School in Manhattan. Two of her plays have been produced professionally. In addition to theater, Christina enjoys music, animals, and yoga.

Claire H. comes to Hidden Valley from Baltimore, MD. She is currently the Assistant Director of Extended Care at a Catholic school in Baltimore. Claire loves reading, walking, and creative writing.

Clare B. grew up in Macclesfield, England. She has worked at a hotel and restaurant. Clare studies dance choreography and hopes to join a contemporary dance company and teach dance classes.

Clementine grew up in New York City. She is a student at Barnard College majoring in Art History and Visual Arts. This is Clementine’s seventh year at Hidden Valley and second year as a counselor. She enjoys photography, pottery, drawing, and rock climbing and is looking forward to spending time with campers this summer.

Cleo grew up in New York City and Amherst, MA. She has worked in the Office of Admissions at Goucher College, where she is a Communications and Media Studies major. Cleo’s interests include dance, reading, crafts, and cooking.

Corey hails from Greenwood, SC and is an International Business major at the University of South Carolina. He has worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor. Corey loves sports, reading, drawing, and traveling.

Daniel G. grew up in Princeton, NJ and will be a senior at Curry College in the fall. He worked at a camp in New Jersey for five years, where he helped take care of children and teach mountain biking. Daniel enjoys basketball and playing the guitar and is looking forward to his time at Hidden Valley.

Dan M. most recently lived in Northampton, MA and plans to live in San Francisco, CA this fall. He graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a degree in Integrative Art Studies. Dan has worked as a teacher for children with special needs, and he manages the pottery program at Hidden Valley.

Dan W. grew up in Branchburg, NJ. He recently graduated from New York University with a degree in Film and Television. Dan has worked as an intern at BBC and as a technical assistant at the NYU TV Studio. He enjoys filmmaking and playing basketball.

Danno grew up in Medford, OR and now lives in Portland, OR. He is a psychology major at Portland State University and works as an after school teacher at a Boys and Girls Club. Danno enjoys biking, music, and hiking. This is his second summer as a Hidden Valley counselor.

Elizabeth D. grew up in northern Virginia and Lakenheath, England. She will head to the University of Waikato in New Zealand in the fall, where she plans to major in psychology. Elizabeth was a Hidden Valley camper for two years and has worked as a babysitter for six years.

Elizabeth J. hails from Jefferson, ME. She is an Elementary Education major at the University of Southern Maine and has worked as a substitute teacher. Elizabeth enjoys hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and music.

Eric hails from Ashland, OR and graduated from Portland State University with a degree in English. He currently teaches English to elementary school students and works as an after school teacher at a Boys and Girls Club. Eric enjoys music and photography.

Erica grew up in Orange County, CA and graduated from California State University-San Marcos with a degree in liberal studies. She has worked as a nanny, lifeguard, day camp counselor, and swim instructor. Erica enjoys art and outdoor activities.

Ezra grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and now lives in Jacksonville, FL. He is a student at Appalachian State University. Ezra previously worked as a camp counselor in Atlanta. He enjoys sports and music.

Florent comes to Hidden Valley from Lille, France. He is currently a student studying mathematics and physics. Florent has worked as a day camp counselor and enjoys volleyball and swimming.

Fran hails from Rotherham, England. She has been involved with youth theater and has done peer mentoring. Fran studies medicine at Durham University. She enjoys theater and swimming.

Fritz grew up in Kalamazoo, MI. He attends Western Michigan University, where he majors in Latin, Greek, and history. He also works at his university’s bookstore. Fritz enjoys biking, computers, and reading.

Grace grew up in Brooklyn, NY and will be a freshman at Oberlin College in the fall. She is entering her seventh summer at Hidden Valley after being a camper and AWAC. Grace previously worked for “Art Works for Youth,” a non-profit organization in South Africa. She enjoys art, dance, theater, and traveling.

Hanna grew up in South London, England. She recently completed her education at Canterbury Christ Church University, where she studied Criminology and Forensic Investigation. She has been involved with horseback riding since she was five years old and previously worked as a camp counselor and riding instructor in Connecticut.

Hilary grew up in London, England; Indianapolis, IN; and San Antonio, TX. She will soon graduate from Florida International University, where she majors in political science and international relations. Hilary plans to receive a Master’s degree from Boston College and attend law school in London. She enjoys horseback riding.

Ian comes to Hidden Valley from Boston, MA.  He has worked as an outdoor educator.  He attends UMass Boston and is majoring in American Studies.  Ian enjoys hockey, reading, and kangaroos.

Isobel hails from Waldoboro, ME. She worked as an AWAC at Hidden Valley for two summers and is a Peer Writing Assistant at Bates College, where she is majoring in politics and history. Isobel’s family has been involved with Hidden Valley since her parents spent their first winter after college living at camp and taking care of the llamas. She enjoys theater, dance, debate, baking, and art.

Jackie grew up in New York City. She has worked as a day camp counselor and was an AWAC at Hidden Valley for two years. Jackie will move to Scotland to begin her first year at the University of St. Andrews in the fall. She plans to major in film studies and social anthropology.

Jacqueline hails from Auckland, New Zealand. She completed a degree in Commerce and Science at the University of Auckland, where she majored in Mathematics, Statistics, and Economics. Jacqueline has worked as a horseback riding instructor in New Zealand and enjoys snowboarding, running, and cycling.

Jake grew up in Battle Creek, MI and Wiesbaden, Germany. He was a camper at Hidden Valley for two years and is now a student at Western Michigan University majoring in Film, Video, and Media Studies. Jake has made many short films and started his own film production company. He also enjoys photography, music, art, and reading.

James hails from Malibu, CA, where he teaches a writing workshop for middle school students at Our Lady of Malibu Catholic School. He graduated from Bennington College with a degree in Writing. James also enjoys traveling and yoga.

Jason grew up in Bronx, NY and is a psychology major at SUNY Purchase. He has worked at a recreation center in the Bronx and enjoys photography, glass working, drawing, writing, and cooking.

Jeff grew up in Medford, OR. He worked in the fishing industry in Alaska for two summers and spent five years in the Navy. Jeff now lives in New York City, where he will be a senior at City College in the fall. He loves the outdoors and hopes to become a teacher.

Josh grew up in Concord, NH and currently attends the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He worked at a horse farm throughout high school and enjoys sports, reading, and spending time with friends.

Kate hails from Melbourne, Australia. Before arriving at Hidden Valley, she taught tennis at a different summer camp. She also works as a lifeguard at her local YMCA. Kate is interested in art and sports and would like to teach Physical Education at the high school level.

Katy hails from Fayette, AL. She just graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Communicative Disorders and will continue her education at Appalachian State University in the fall. Katy is excited to be at Hidden Valley this summer.

Kevin grew up in Salt Lake City, UT and is a photography major at the Art Institute of Boston. He worked as a counselor at Hidden Valley in 2007 and has also been a sign language interpreter and a high school photography teacher. In addition to photography, Kevin enjoys reading, volleyball, and swimming.

Lacey hails from Anchorage, AK and attends the University of Alaska-Anchorage. She has cared for a girl with disabilities for four years. Lacey enjoys photography, hiking, biking, and skiing.

Lauren comes to Hidden Valley from Unity, ME. She is an ecology major at Unity College and will be certified as a teacher. Lauren is the barn manager this summer. She enjoys kayaking and horseback riding.

Leda hails from Murphys, CA. She graduated from Sonoma State University with a major in Environmental Education and minor in Studio Art. Leda enjoys photography and llamas. This is her sixth year as a Hidden Valley counselor.

Lierin comes to Hidden Valley from Mobile, AL. She is a student at New York University, where she studies journalism and forensic anthropology. Lierin has worked as a soccer coach in New York City and owns her own jewelry business. She enjoys writing, photography, and hiking.

Lindsay grew up in Highland Park, IL and Solana Beach, CA. She is a student at Skidmore College and plans to major in business and French. Lindsay worked in a bead store for three years and enjoys crafts. This is her seventh summer at Hidden Valley.

Liv hails from Arlington, MA. She has worked as a dog washer, assistant dog groomer, and sales associate in a shop and has been a volunteer at the Ironstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Program. Liv is majoring in biology at Bard College. She loves horseback riding, reading, and painting and is excited to be a counselor at Hidden Valley this summer.

Luke most recently lived in Northampton, MA. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst with degrees in English, French, and Philosophy.  He has worked as a summer muralist at HVC as well as teaching glass fusing. 

Marci hails from Concord, NH and will attend Prescott College in the fall. She plans to major in dance and environmental sociology. Marci has been involved with Habitat for Humanity and a soup kitchen. She is interested in art, singing, and outdoor activities.

Marte hails from Oslo, Norway. She graduated from the University of Oslo in 2007 and has been a Kindergarten Assistant for one year. In addition, Marte worked as a horseback riding instructor at a camp in Norway for four years. She enjoys animals, hiking, skiing, and ice skating.

Maxine grew up in Ramsey, NJ. She hopes to attend the University of Colorado and major in Equine Studies and business. She once taught a two-week horseback riding clinic for twelve girls. In addition to riding, Maxine enjoys reading and writing.

Michael hails from Philadelphia, PA and is majoring in political science and psychology at Rutgers University. He worked as an intern at the Washington Examiner last summer and enjoys basketball, salsa dancing, and rock climbing.

Michella grew up in Mentor, OH. She is a pre-Physical Therapy major at the University of Dayton and plans to earn her doctorate in Physical Therapy after college. She has worked as a babysitter for the past three years. Michella enjoys sports, reading, baking, and outdoor activities.

Michelle N. hails from Waterlooville, England and studies accounting and law at Bournemouth University. She has worked as a lifeguard and babysitter and is looking forward to working at Hidden Valley. Michelle enjoys swimming, sailing, and walking.

Michelle W. hails from Concord, NH and is a student at Cape Cod Community College. She has worked at an arts and crafts store. Michelle enjoys photography and swimming.

Narelle grew up in Hervey Bay, Australia and now lives in Brisbane. She has a degree in Business Management and is the Store Manager of a supermarket for one of Australia’s largest retail employers. Narelle loves horseback riding and art.

Natalie J. hails from Littleton, CO. She just finished her freshman year at the University of Chicago, where she plans to major in Sociology and Latin American Studies and minor in Spanish. Natalie works as a teaching assistant for fourth graders in Chicago. She loves reading and being outdoors.

Patrick hails from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He attends the University of Stirling in Scotland, where he majors in Journalism Studies. Patrick is training to be a journalist with national magazines. He also enjoys rugby.

Phil grew up in Portland, OR and London, England. He just graduated from the University of Edinburgh, where he majored in Ancient History. Phil is entering his fourth year as a counselor at Hidden Valley. He enjoys basketball and skiing and is excited for the 2008 summer.

Rachel grew up in Russellville, AL and now lives in Louisville, KY. She graduated from Mississippi State University and continued her education at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Rachel enjoys knitting, hiking, and traveling.

Renee comes to Hidden Valley from Brisbane, Australia. She graduated from college with degrees in Wildlife Biology and Animal Welfare and Handling. Renee enjoys sports, scuba diving, and working with animals.

Sara Lyn hails from Middleton, WI. She just graduated from the University of Wisconsin with degrees in Mathematics and Russian Language and Literature. Sara Lyn has been a counselor at a Rape Crisis Center and an ESL tutor. She also worked at her campus library for two years. She is interested in cycling, canoeing, and reading.

Sarah L. grew up in Glastonbury, CT and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Interior Design. She will begin to work on a Master’s degree at the University of Connecticut in the fall. Sarah enjoys cooking and indoor rock-climbing.

Sarah S. grew up in Glen Rock, NJ and is a student at Barnard College. She has done volunteer work in a nursing home and is a sportswriter for her college newspaper. Sarah enjoys basketball, juggling, and swimming. She was a camper and AWAC at Hidden Valley and is looking forward to being a counselor.

Seann grew up in Springfield, VT. He has worked as a cook and chef for six years and even managed a kitchen on a ski mountain. Seann’s interests include outdoor activities and photography.

Solfrid grew up in Hawkes Bay and Auckland, New Zealand. She recently graduated from high school and plans to work in Costa Rica and Canada after camp. Solfrid enjoys skiing, dancing, swimming, reading, and traveling.

Sophie grew up in New York City and just finished her freshman year at Clark University. She plans to major in English and become a teacher. Sophie enjoys piano, reading, writing, and tennis. She was a camper at Hidden Valley for four summers and an AWAC for two summers.

Suzi grew up in Mentor, OH. She has worked as a nanny and as a high school girls basketball coach. Suzi is a Social Work major at Cleveland State University. She is interested in art, animals, reading, boxing, and outdoor activities.

Tess hails from Nashville, IN and is majoring in theater and Wildlife Biology at Purdue University. She has taught horseback riding at a barn and also enjoys hiking and reading.

Tessa hails from Saco, ME and is a student at the University of Maine-Farmington. She is an Elementary Education major with a concentration in Language Arts. Tessa has worked at a sports arena and enjoys hiking, swimming, reading, and writing.

Toby grew up in Tivoli, NY and is an English major at the University of Chicago. He has spent many summers working at the Fisher Center for Performing Arts at Bard College and has acted in more than 15 plays over the last six years. Toby is excited to be a counselor at Hidden Valley.

Tom hails from Freedom, ME. He has worked as a homestead builder, seeds specialist, and camp generalist. Tom manages the instrument building program at Hidden Valley. He holds a degree in education from the University of Maine and enjoys gardening and building.

Phillie joins us from New Zealand.  She enjoys travel, bananas, and swimming.  Phillie has taught horse riding, swimming, biking and glass beads and many other areas at HVC.

Whitney just graduated from the University of Alabama, where she majored in Communications and Information Sciences with a concentration in Telecommunications and Film (Audio / Video Production). She hails from Fayette, AL and likes reading and photography.

Yvette hails from Aberystwyth, West Wales, where she studies criminology. She has worked as a sales assistant and waitress and has volunteered at a horseback riding school. Yvette enjoys riding, stable management, art, Jiu-Jitsu, and walking.

Gavin grew up in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and attended University of Stirling majoring in media and marketing.  He is currently the Ropes Course Director at HVC.  Gavin is interested in rugby, music, and history.

John hails from Wayne, Pennsylvania.  He attended Maryland Institute College of Art studying painting, teaching, and art history.  He has worked as a gallery assistant and in maintenance.  John’s interests include art, basketball, music, kittens, teaching, history, outdoors, reading, and having fun.

Alice comes from Sydney, Australia and attends JMC Academy majoring in Entertainment Business Management.  She has worked as an equestrian team rider, trainer, and groomer.  Some of her interests include hockey, art, music, theatre, and snowboarding.

Camilla hails from Ballerup, Denmark where she attends Denmark’s Technical University where she studies Bio-chemical Engineering.  Her interests include horse riding, art, and dancing.

Abby T. hails from Frankfort, Maine and attended the University of Maine majoring in Biology.  She has worked at YMCA as a lifeguard and swim instructor, and as a camp recreational counselor.  Her interests include sports, reading, and hiking.

Stella, of Norfolk Virginia, is currently designing her own major at Lesley College near Boston. When she is not working at camp, being a nanny, or working at a Doggie Day Care, Stella enjoys Yoga and reminiscing about her nine years at HVC.

Barton is one of our horseback riding pro-staff members. She is a third level dressage rider, who is ranked notionally. When she is not teaching advanced riders at HVC she owns and operates her own horse stable, in maine.

Camille is one of our stained glass professionals. She has a long history working with both children and the arts and specializes in  a multitude of stained glass techniques, wooden toy making, metalworking and more.

Adam is a returning counselor who runs our skatepark for us. He spent this past year in Burlington Vermont and is thrilled to be back at camp. He also teaches phto classes and rock band.
