HV Adventures

Dear H.V. Adventurer & Family,

We're making plans for everything from a 1-week canoe trip torock-climbing, rafting and a visit to Quebec. This all requirespreparation which is why you must carefully read this page in anticipation of the summer.
  • Get in shape prior to camp. It will be much more pleasant to soak your exercisedmuscles in your tub at home than to have to confront an aching bodywith another hike or river to paddle when you're wanting to have fun inMaine. Of course there are days set aside to recharge and do laundry, but it is essential that you make the following part of your life well before the summer begins...
    • Regular Exercise
    • Good Nutrition
    • Adequate Sleep

  • Packing: Click here for a complete supply list. It's crucial that you consult it carefully... You can never be tooprepared when you are essentially living outdoors for the better partof a month. Your folks will find the chance for a head start on anynecessary purchases valuable. These items are essentials, not suggestions: Equipment not included upon arrival will be purchased here at parents' expense. Don't hesitate to call with any questions.

  • Proof of citizenship will be required in order to get in to and return from Canada. This can take the form of a certified birth certificate or preferably a passport.
  • Expectations & group life: On our end we'll do everything we can to provide a safe and fun month. Here's what we will expect from you...

First, a willingness to pitch in when needed. This is helpful, for example, when it is getting dark and dinnerhasn’t been cooked yet. The more energy each of you contributes, themore time all of you will have to relax and enjoy your adventures...

Second, to help all of you feel comfortable and included, please remember to remain inclusive of everyone in the group and not pair off...

Finally... We will ask that you all show respect toward each otherand any other group of people with which you interact whileparticipating in your adventures. You represent Hidden Valley whileyou’re on these trips and you represent yourself. Thanks in advancefor helping to make this summer's adventures meaningful for all.
