Our Location and Facilities - Learn More About our Camp

"This is heaven... and if it's not, then it's in the same zip code"
- HVC Parent

The camp is secluded in a 300-acre wooded
glen with a private lake one mile long.

Hidden Valley Camp - secluded in a 300-acre wooded glen with a private lake one mile long- lies just inland from the cozy coastal villages of Belfast and Camden on Maine's famous Penobscot Bay. The meadows, pine trees, animal corrals and sprawling red farmhouse with attached barn all create a friendly, home-like atmosphere.
"The combination of topography at HVC is quite unusual, at least from the camps I've seen in ME and NH. The combination of open fields, meadow hills, water and deep woods is just fantastic. I love all the creative and artistic touches, plus the whimsy of your signs and building names. I smiled and laughed a lot as I walked around, encountering that creativity at every turn."
-New England Camp Association Director

What you should know about our unique and beautiful corner of the world:

• Hidden Valley owns all of its camp facilities.  We do not lease the site.

• Peter and Meg’s home is right in the center of camp; they keep an eye on all aspects of the facility.

• A year-round skilled maintenance crew makes sure that HVC is ready for camper arrival in June.

• 70 buildings include modern cabin facilities designed to support group development and camper comfort.

• New modern dining hall supports state-of-the-art menu for all diet needs.

• Go to our green page to see how we do al this and minimize our impact on the natural setting we steward.

A trail through the woods leads to the top of Ledge Mountain - a grass and pine tree-covered hill which provides a spectacular view of the lake and surrounding area - and the inspirational log cabin, built by campers in 1973, overlooking the
 lake.

Our Rec Hall and 3 brilliant dance studios, along with a recording studio, provide the basis of performing arts at HVC.

This mural, like many other outdoor art projects here, was created by campers and professional arts staff-members over the course of the summer 2008.

All the land around the spring-fed lake is privately owned, so there are no motor boats or public access. At the lake is our sparkling new pavilion , sauna, waterslide, and diving rafts. Trained staff provide supervision and instruction from floating docks attached to the shore.

Hidden Valleys Ropes Course, one of the first of it's kind, was re-built in 2007, providing new challenges
for campers.

10 crafts facilities provide the basis

Inside the Dining Hall

Dining Hall in Winter
"Having had the chance to immerse ourselves in the camp, we discovered a peacefulness there, a calm and contentment that shows itself in the way the campers walk and speak... Erica greeted us with an easy-going, gentle pace which echoed in her voice. There was a richness in her... I think a huge part of the feeling emanating from her was [a result of] the environment and facilities at Hidden Valley; it is clearly one of the most beautiful and well-kept properties I have ever seen."
- HVC Parent

Cabin

Cabin Life
- Hidden Valley's cabins are not dorms but rather open, airy, fun places designed for our unique camper groups. Campers are grouped by age or grade in any of these 24 mordern structures. Every cabin has hot and cold water and all plumbing facilties.

Cabin activities may include a swim at rest period, campfires, crafts or sports on Cabin Night, or mellow "downtime" in the cabin.

Cabin bunks
During the first few days of camp, counselors work to create a small community in the cabin and are always available to provide individual attention to all campers.

Peter and Meg meet regularly with counselors (3-4 staff per cabin) to monitor the progress of their cabin groups.

"I just wish other "first time parents" could know in advance just how caring and responsible you folks are."
- HVC Parent

"Summertime, oh, summertime, pattern of life indelible, the fade-proof lake, the woods unshatterable, the pasture with the sweet fern and the juniper forever and ever…" ~ E.B. White
